princetonbell.jpgI’ve been visiting the Princeton area on weekends lately, and this bell is one of the few remaining relics from the war vessel “The U.S.S. Princeton” launched in 1843. Unfortunately, in 1844 it was taken for a pleasure trip down the Potomac with President Tyler, his cabinet, and other distinguished guests on board, when a gun exploded, killing the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Navy, and others. The gun that exploded was known as “The Peacemaker.”
