Margarita Echevarria is an independent arbitrator and mediator in the metropolitan New York/New Jersey area focused on commercial disputes. Ms. Echevarria is an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, the global leader in dispute resolution services, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR), Federal Courts (USDC-NJ, ED-NY), and a Mediator in New York and New Jersey’s Court Mediation Panels.
Prior to becoming a full-time ADR neutral she was either in-house counsel or Chief Compliance Officer for Insurance at major financial services firms (for e.g. GE, HSBC, TIAA) for more than thirty years. She began her insurance career as in-house counsel at Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company in Newark, New Jersey. These firms distributed or produced multi-line insurance products for the United States market. HSBC and TIAA also maintain substantial international operations through subsidiaries and affiliates which required management of cross border issues. Ms. Echevarria has extensive experience in regulatory matters, governance, complex business transactions, general commercial matters and legal issues involving contracts, vendors, and insurance coverage products.

Ms. Echevarria obtained her B.A. and J.D. Degrees at Rutgers-the State University of New Jersey. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York. Other professional designations include an Insurance Planning certificate from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. and a Series 7 General Securities Representative license (1997-2016).
ABOUT
Ms. Echevarria’s involvement in complex negotiations and transactions have spanned the rehabilitation of one of the largest United States insurer in the 1990s’, the merger of two major financial services corporations, and the launch of a partnership at her last employer with a premier Independent Marketing Group which included a network of distribution firms, a reinsurance company and an investment adviser. Concurrently, Ms. Echevarria’s career in the insurance industry has involved numerous product development and launch initiatives; substantial contract reviews, drafting and negotiations; and many corporate governance projects. As an Insurance Attorney, Ms. Echevarria’s experience has included transactional, labor, copyright and trademark matters, regulatory and government affairs, consumer issues, compliance and litigation.
